Meet The Team: General Manager Rory

Meet General Manager Rory McMonagle — our Guinness-loving Irish powerhouse.

If you’ve met the energetic and dynamic Rory before in Ruislip, where he served as General Manager, you’ve likely witnessed his fondness for four-legged friends and undoubtedly admired his impressive red locks. Now, we’re proud to welcome him as the new General Manager of The Prince of Wales.

A passionate swimmer and former Irish junior record holder, Rory attended the University of Hertfordshire on a scholarship. However, after sustaining an injury, his career path was thrust into a new direction.

“I was already working at The Hare in Old Redding and really enjoying it. It was there I realised my love for hospitality. It’s such a social job — I was essentially getting paid to chat to people – while pouring a few pints in the middle!”

After four years at The Hare — our sister pub in Old Redding — and a promotion to Assistant Manager, Rory made the move to The White Bear in Ruislip in 2019. There, he rekindled his love for hospitality and soon rose to the role of General Manager. The rest, as they say, is history.

Born and raised in Northwest London, Rory feels right at home here in East Barnet. A keen sportsman in his younger years, he spent much of his time swimming and playing football in the local area, developing a real connection and passion for the community here.

“I wanted a new challenge — but in an environment where I still feel at home. It seemed like a natural next step, moving from a successful pub to a new opening where I can really bring my best. I’m excited about building the team from the ground up.”

Back in Ruislip, Rory became known for creating a tight-knit dog-loving community, spearheading popular monthly dog walks which bring guests together to explore local beauty spots, something which he is excited to bring to the dog lovers of East Barnet!

“As a family pub, dogs are a huge part of many of our families — especially mine. Creating a space where dogs and their owners feel welcome sets the tone for the whole community.”

Above all, Rory thrives in the energy of a new opening.

“What some might see as chaos, is my happy place. One of the things I love most about hospitality is that no two days are ever the same. I can’t wait for the buzz that comes with being welcomed into a new community.”

Pop in and meet Rory from May – you’re guaranteed a warm welcome – especially if you happen to be of the four-legged variety!
